As a member of the Design for Extreme Affordability Program at Stanford, my team was tasked with finding an alternative income source in impoverished fishing communities in the Philippines. We partnered with the non-profit Rare and had the opportunity to visit remote islands in the Philippines to learn the needs of the user first hand.
I, along with one other team member, received external funding after the completion of the course to continue on with our project and bring it to market. We were able to create an ice storage unit that uses 80% less energy than a typical freezer. We are currently in the process of handing the project off to an implementation partner to pilot test and manufacture.
